Conference Call
Board Members Participating: Keri Clark, Brent Stark, Dennis Mathews, Reg George, Lily Clifton, and Nancy McDaniel.
Board Members Absent: Greg Szabo and Berl Colley
Ex-Officio Members Participating: Marci Carpenter (National Federation of the Blind of WA), Jennifer Butcher (WSSB Teachers Association) and Jim Eccles (WA Federation of State Employees Local #1225).
Ex-Officio Members Absent: Joleen Ferguson (Washington Council of the Blind) and Krista Bulger (Parent Representative)
WSSB Staff Members Participating: Scott McCallum (Superintendent), Sean McCormick (Director of On-Campus Programs), and Janet Kurz (recording secretary).
Nancy called the meeting to order at 7:30pm.
Business Meeting
Old Business
Board of Trustees meeting minutes–March 15, 2019: Reg moved to approve the minutes as submitted; Lily seconded the motion. The minutes were approved unanimously.
New Business
Student Awards
Board of Trustees Award:
Discussion was held regarding nominations. Dennis nominated Jorden Raze for the Board of Trustees award; Brent seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
Roy J. Brothers Award:
Discussion was held regarding nominations. Reg nominated Lizbeth Meza for the Roy J. Brothers award. Marci seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
Rodney B. Humble Outreach Award:
Discussion was held regarding nominations. Brent nominated Hope Imus for the Rodney B. Humble Outreach award. Marci seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
Miscellaneous
· Discussion was held regarding this year’s Track Meet. This year’s event starts with a speaker at 9:30am and events start at 10:00am. The awards ceremony will begin at 3:45pm. Marci, Lily and Nancy all stated they will be attending.
· Marci asked who the commencement speaker will be. Scott stated Janet George from the Department of Services for the Blind will be the speaker. Reg asked how many students will be graduating. Sean stated there are three.
· The Board meeting and graduation will all be held on June 13. Graduation will be starting at 9am on June 13, after graduation will be an awards and picnic from 10:30am-12pm. The board meeting will begin at 12pm. The seniors will have their breakfast at 7:30am that morning as well.
The next Board meeting will be held on June 13 at 12:00pm. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8pm.
