Gov.-elect Bob Ferguson announced Friday the reappointment of two leaders of state schools in Vancouver.
Shauna Bilyeu will continue to serve as executive director of the state’s Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Youth, which operates the Washington School for the Deaf in Vancouver. She’s been in her position for the past year and a half, but she’s worked at the center since 2005 in different roles, including as a teacher and administrator.
Bilyeu has a masters degree in deaf education and two administrative credentials from Washington State University and is the secretary for the Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf.
Scott McCallum will continue as superintendent of the Washington State School for the Blind. Appointed to his position in 2016, he has 25 years of experience as a teacher and administrator working with children and young adults who are blind or have low vision.
McCallum also serves as an adviser to the Board of Directors for the Pacific Foundation for Blind Children, a commissioner for the Oregon Commission for the Blind, a board member for the Northwest Association for Blind Athletes, and a board member and president-elect for the Council of Schools and Services for the Blind.
McCallum has a master’s degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and a bachelor’s in elementary education from the University of North Dakota.
McCallum is a current doctoral candidate in educational leadership at Washington State University.
