I.    Purpose: 

To outline the WSSB position regarding use of personal holiday for certificated staff.

II.  Policy: 

Effective January 1, 2006 and in accordance with state Merit System Rules and WAC 357-31-055 through WAC 357-31-095, WSSB permanent full time certificated employees will be entitled to one (1) paid personal holiday per calendar year.  Certificated staff will receive pay for the number of hours they are scheduled to work on the day they select as their personal holiday.

WSSB will approve the personal holiday request as long as the employee has requested their personal holiday in advance and received approval from their supervisor; and the employee’s absence does not interfere with the operational needs of WSSB. 

The personal holiday must be used within the calendar year, January through December.

WSSB’s granting of personal holiday does not entitle certificated staff to any other paid holidays or to any accrual of vacation leave.  Certificated staff that has questions concerning entitlement of leave or holidays should contact the Human Resources office or their Supervisor.

III.  Procedures:

Certificated staff must apply for their personal holiday by submitting a leave request form to their Supervisor for approval in advance of the requested date of the leave.  Certificated staff will receive pay for the number of hours they are scheduled to work on the day they select as their personal holiday. Completed forms should be sent to the payroll office for processing.
